The intensive outpatient drug rehab center is designed to aid individuals in their recovery in regards to drug addiction. Many people know all about residential drug facilities but know nothing about outpatient drug treatment. It is a good idea to understand both because one type of treatment might be more appropriate for an individual than the other. However, both treatments are meant to help people get sober, stay sober and live a better life.

Differences

Many people already know about residential treatment centers but they do not seem to know about outpatient treatment centers. The main difference between the two is that in residential treatment centers, people have to live there for a certain period of time and are not allowed to leave. In outpatient treatment centers, they are allowed to leave at the end of the day. They both offer the same benefits like the detoxing program. Some people prefer the freedom of the outpatient treatments over the inpatient facilities.

Misconception

Because they use different approaches, residential programs are thought to be much more effective than outpatient programs but this is not true. They both help people get better. One simply uses a different approach than the other.

Communicate Feelings

Outpatient programs give patients a chance to talk about their lives and addictions with people who have been through similar situations. Talking about the addiction is usually the first step in any recovery process. They feel comfortable sharing in this environment because they are sharing this information with people who have been through the same thing.

The First Step

They usually feel comfortable sharing because all the people there can relate and have had much the same experience. This helps to build tight connections over time because the same people attend, listen and tell stories and help each other through hard times which aides in the addict’s recovery.

Time and Dedication

This treatment requires a little bit of time and dedication but as long as people are willing to work hard, it can lead the way to successful recovery. It can take up to thirty days for a person obtain sobriety and they need to be at every meeting and really stay committed.

Freedom

These drug medical detox programs provide a lot of breathing space so patients have the ability to keep their jobs and do other things throughout the day. However, they still need to attend meetings in the evening or in the morning. Missing a meeting creates a break in treatment that is very detrimental to recovery so attendance is imperative.
